One reason for the climb and takeoff advantage is weight: The model 35, which needs only 2,300 feet to clear a 50-foot obstacle at gross-weight takeoff, weighs only 6,500 pounds empty and grosses at 12,500 pounds.

All models feature a new modified wing design to reduce approach speeds and balanced field length without sacrificing Mach cruise and range.

The aircraft are powered by two Garrett TFE731-2 turbofan engines. Its cabin can be arranged for 6-8 passengers.

The longer-range Model 36 has a shortened passenger area to provide more space in the aft fuselage for fuel tanks.

The engines are mounted in nacelles on the sides of the aft fuselage. The wings are equipped with single-slotted flaps.

The Model 36 is essentially identical to the 35, except that it has a larger fuselage fuel tank, giving it 500 miles longer range.

It reduces the passenger area's length by 18 inches (0.46 m). It was certified, along with the 35, in July, 1974.

The concept which became the LJ35 began as the Learjet 25BGF (with GF referring to “Garrett Fan”), a Learjet 25 with a then-new TFE731 turbofan engine mounted on the left side in place of the 25′s General Electric CJ610 turbojet engine.

This test bed aircraft first flew in May, 1971. As a result of the increased power and reduced noise of the new engine, Learjet further improved the design, and instead of being simply a variant of the 25, it became its own model, the 35.

The first model 23 was delivered in 1964 with seating for eight. Two years later, the improved model 24 with airline transport category certification was introduced, and in 1968.

The Learjet 36 is known for its flight range. The Lear 36 is based on the Learjet 35, but replaces 2 extra seats for additional fuel.

The Learjet 36 is capable of flying non-stop across the Atlantic. The Learjet 36 offers more than range: it has good handling characteristics, a low fuel burn, and fast cruise speeds as well.

A maximum of 8 passengers can travel in the Learjet 36 cabin. The cabin is usually in a double club layout, with plenty of room for chairs to to swivel, recline, and track.

The Learjet 36 is the new and improved version of the Lear 35 and can fly 1,530 miles (1,330 nautical miles) nonstop.

The real strengths of the Learjet 36 are its range, takeoff, and cruise capabilities. Two Honeywell TFE731-2-2B engines provide 3,500 pounds of thrust, allowing the Lear 36 to take off in 4,972 feet.

The maximum take off weight is pretty high as well at 18,300 pounds. Components of the TFE731-2-2B engines are used in much higher-performing jets, adding to the 36’s credentials.

The engine’s pressure compressors were taken from the Garret 660-series engine, which is used on 747s.

Their turbine components come from DC-10s, and the high-pressure impellers are modified versions of the ones used in the TPE 331 and T76 engines.

The 36A is an upgraded model of the 35. Over 600 of the 35 & 36 models were manafactured between 1976 and 1993.

Lear moved back to the United States in 1962 to set up development and production of his Learjet and settled on Wichita, Kansas as the base for operations.
