The Hawker 4000 super mid-size business jet is the largest aircraft in the Hawker family and features all-composite fuselage and swept aluminium wing design.

The aircraft was known as the Hawker Horizon but was renamed the Hawker 4000 in November 2005. Other members of the Hawker family include the Hawker 800XP and the Hawker 400XP.

In December 2006, Raytheon announced the sale of Raytheon Aircraft to GS Capital Partners. The new company is called Hawker Beechcraft Inc and the sale was completed in March 2007.

The aircraft, with an NBAA IFR range of 3,100nm (5,741km) and a speed of Mach 0.82 (870km/h), is capable of crossing the USA non-stop and with a maximum range of 3,400nm (6,296km), has transatlantic flight capability.

The Hawker 4000 made its first flight on 11 August 2001. More than 130 aircraft have been ordered. In June 2003, in confirmation of its transatlantic capability.

The Hawker 4000 fuselage is of advanced composite technology construction similar to that used on the Premier I entry level business jet, and including graphite / epoxy laminated material and honeycomb composites.

This Jet is more commonly known as the Hawker Horizon, has been serving its owners well since it went into service in 2005. For those reasons, asking prices for used Hawker 4000 aircraft are in the $4 million-6.5 million range, 20-30% of the original retail price, well below the resale prices of less capable super-midsize aircraft.

However, if the aircraft undergoes a rigorous due diligence pre-buy process, this aircraft can be a great buy.

Typically equipped, it’s capable of flying six passengers 3,100 nm at Mach 0.80. Each additional passenger costs about 50 nm of range.

The 16.7-ft.long main seating area comfortably seats 8 passengers in double club or 9 passengers with the optional 3-place, aft left side divan.

The forward right side galley shares space behind the cockpit with a 2.5-ft. long avionics cabinet, but it has sufficient room for the standard wet sink, microwave oven, coffee maker and food/beverage/serving ware storage compartments.

The carbon composite structure makes the cabin spacious and light for passengers. The space available offers room for a Flight Attendant, full galley (for in flight catering), and built-in rest room on board.

The stand up cabin (6ft) helps to reduce fatigue for both pilots and passengers. The Hawker 4000 has a heated baggage area, which is accessible from the cabin even mid-flight.

The Hawker 4000 is unlike any aircraft in its class, including the Challenger 300, Gulfstream G200, Citation X and Falcon 50.

Access to the baggage compartment during flight is through the cabin and on the ground is via the exterior of the aircraft.

The cabin can accommodate eight to 12 passengers. The eight-seat cabin is arranged with four pairs of club chairs with writing tables.

The cabin air conditioning and pressurisation system is digitally controlled.

The aircraft is equipped with two rear-mounted PW308A turbofan engines from Pratt & Whitney Canada, each rated at 28.9kN.

The engines, fitted with Nordam target thrust reversers and Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC), are mounted in pods on either side of the rear fuselage.

By the time of the first deliveries in 2008 the Raytheon Aircraft Company had been bought by Hawker Beechcraft.

The Hawker 4000 is made using carbon composites (instead of aluminium) which makes the aircraft lighter, faster and increases fuel efficiency.

The flight range allows for non-stop flights between London and Dubai, New York or Moscow.
